Hotel Review: Four Points by Sheraton Bali

As much as I am a huge fan of Hilton Hhonors, I have to admit the recent status matches have diluted the whole program. I am thoroughly annoyed after my nasty experience at the Conrad Bangkok. As such, I am putting my money where my mouth is and shifted majority of my stays to SPG. And since I am a nobody at SPG, it did not make financial sense for me to stay at one of their full service hotels since I would not be able to get elite benefits anyway. So for my stay in Bali, I did the Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Kuta.
It was surprisingly affordable when I booked it during the weekly Hot Escapes. A room was selling for IDR700000 after tax and the photos on Tripadvisor looked amazing. (Tripadvisor is always my to-go website when I want to check the condition of a particular property because the photos posted by other travelers never lie) When my Uber arrived at the hotel, it looked exactly as I had envisioned.
The route to the hotel was not so accessible though. It was located on a one-way street, which was often packed with tons of vehicle. It took forever to get an uber to pick me up from the property. There was once I waited almost an hour for my car to arrive when the estimated time was 10 minutes.
I really love this part of Kuta where the hotel was located because it was lively and was only a couple of minutes away from the beach if you take the complimentary shuttle bus. There were also tons of restaurants, bars and massage places nearby.
The exterior of the hotel was very unique with the usage of plants to drape the otherwise very dull concrete. Upon arrival at the hotel, the lobby amazed me. It had a vintage boutique feel with typewriters, skeleton keys and trunks around. Check in was quick and I was promptly upgraded to a Lagoon View room thanks to my Gold status, but there was not much difference from the Pool View room I originally had.

The lobby had a view of the lagoon, which spanned the entire resort. There was a smaller pool at the back which is meant for kids. So whichever room you get, you are bound to have a view of a water body at least.

Room wise, it was decently sized and pretty standard. I did not particularly spend a lot of time in the room because I was out at Ku De Ta and Potato Head Club, which were amazing. The room was basically for me to rest my head after a long day and it served its purpose very well.

Wifi was good at the lobby but was non-existent throughout the rest of property including my room. Fortunately I had a local sim card with me so it was not too much of a problem for me.
All in all, the hotel pleasantly surprised me because it did not feel like a limited service Four Points but an intimate boutique hotel. The room was nice, the bed was comfortable and the staffs were extremely helpful. One even went out of his way to get me KFC at midnight when all the restaurants were closed. Would definitely stay here again if I need to accumulate more SPG stays, if not the W Retreat & Spa Seminyak will be my next aspirational property.
