Received this really interesting email from Hilton Worldwide who claimed to have notice my booking at the Doubletree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and is offering to establish a corporate rate program with me. I am quite surprised at how their system picked me up since I do not work for any company and travel mainly for leisure only. But then again, I did make multiple trips to Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur and Penang this year, so I can definitely see why I got the email.
International hotel brands in Malaysia are really affordable. I have seen the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur and the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur selling for as low as SGD$180/night. These prices are literally unheard of in Singapore or anywhere else in the world, which makes it an excellent location for mattress runs. In fact at the beginning of this year I did 10 consecutive weekends at the Doubletree by Hilton Johor Bahru, with the intention of doing more, so that I can maintain my Diamond status for 2017. And then right after I booked myself 10 non-refundable stays, they announced the status match. One can only imagine my frustration since I did not need to do the stays at all. In the end I matched my Best Western Diamond Select status to Hilton Diamond for 2017. What a waste of my money.
Anyhow, I will be replying to the email and see if I can get a corporate rate for readers of this blog and who knows i can be a travel agent too...Will give an update as soon as I get one.
