(Update 11.10pm)
I knew the offer was too good to be true and thankfully I took my time and did not donate my SPG points immediately. The offer has been pulled and the following was posted on their offer page:
It blows my mind how they did not anticipate fraud to happen when someone with basic photoshop skills can easily edit those screenshots. Nevertheless, i hope no one has donated their SPG points yet.
The title says it all. For one day only (11/10/2016), you can get 4X Wyndham points for every SPG Starpoint donated to charity. On top of that, you can get your SPG elite status matched to the equivalent Wyndham Rewards elite status:
This is quite a lucrative deal considering Wyndham charges a flat rate of 15,000 Wyndham points for redemption of all their 7,800 properties worldwide. With the quadruple points, 15,000 Wyndham points is equivalent to 3,750 Starpoints, which is roughly the cost for a Category 2 property. When i did a quick search of Wyndham properties near me on a random weekend, the following results came up.
Not too shabby a deal considering the Ramada Singapore at Zhongshan Park, comes up to SGD$200.09 after tax. On top of that, with my new Diamond Status with Wyndham, I get 2 free tickets to the Singapore Zoo with transfer, which I value at SGD$50.
So how do you get started?
On Tuesday, October 11 from 12p.m. – 11:59p.m. EST, SPG members have the historic opportunity to donate their points to charity in exchange for 4x the points with Wyndham Rewards – plus a status match.
To participate, members simply need to donate their entire SPG point balance to their preferred charity, and then send proof of their donation to Wyndham Rewards by sending screen shots to wyndhamrewards.fulfillment@wyn.com.
Two screen shots are required – one showing confirmation of the point donation and a second showing the member’s account activity page with a zero balance.
There is no cap on how many points members may donate or earn. Members may expect to receive the points and match within 10 days.
Is 3,750 Starpoints worth SGD$250? I would say without a doubt. It is definitely one of the better redemption options out there. But i would not be donating all my points for sure. I'll probably transfer my points over to Marriott to hide it before donating 4,000 points to try out Wyndham and who knows i might like it?
