Hilton Hhonors launched their Lifetime Diamond status back in 2015, and required members to have maintained Hilton HHonors Diamond status for 10 years (they do not need to be consecutive) and stayed 1,000 paid Hilton nights. Compared to other programs, this was on the high side since Marriott and SPG only require 750 nights and 500 nights respectively for Lifetime Platinum status.
However come 2017, they are making changes to the program which will allow members to qualify for Lifetime Diamond status with 1,000 paid and award nights, maintained Hilton Hhonors Diamond status for 10 years or if you have accumulated at least 2 million base points (USD$200,000 in spending) since joining the HHonors program.
Hilton HHonors will notify members by email in February 2017 if they have qualified for lifetime Diamond status by 31st December this year.
Overall I think this is a move in the right direction. 1,000 nights is by no means an easy feat even for business travellers and allowing reward stays to be counted will make it slightly easier for loyal members to get the recognition they deserve. I am currently at ~100 nights after 2 years with Hilton so my new goal is to accumulate 900 more nights and hopefully 8 years later I will be able to qualify for Lifetime Diamond.
